I’m willing to bet that most of us were taught to love on a conditional basis by our families of origin or society writ large. Our primitive puppy brains understood early on that in order to stay safe, we needed to be “good” and “worthy” and meet other’s expectations. We then quickly applied these metrics to ourselves and others, and thus the cycle gets perpetuated.

The main problem with this framework of conditional love is that it sets us up for constant painful experiences. When we expect our partners to do what we want when we want them to, and they don’t? We feel pain. When we expect ourselves to show up perfectly and we don’t? We feel pain.

Today, I want to go deep with you on this concept of unconditional love. How can it serve you, as fuel for your goals or simply as an amazing part of the human experience?
