Ep 143: Wounds Dad Didn’t Intend To Leave But They Stop The Love You Crave

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN FROM THIS EPISODE:

  • Our parents did their best with their emotional toolkit. But our trauma is the result of a mismatch between what we needed as kids, and what our parents were equipped to provide. Trauma keeps the passionate love you crave just outside of your reach.

  • Trauma is whenever we don't feel safe. We all have different levels of trauma. So for those who had idyllic childhoods, it’s reasonable to expect that there were times you didn't feel safe, right?

  • Research by psychologist Meg Jay uncovers how childhood trauma and exceptional achievement go together ALOT. Her research with 400 superachievers found that 75% of them had faced severe difficulties, such as the loss of a parent, poverty, or abuse in childhood.  Look at Oprah who suffered childhood abuse,  or Howard Schultz, Starbuck’s CEO who grew up in a tough housing project…the correlation between trauma and achievers is real.

  • Underneath the success of most high-achieving women is a level of trauma that shows up in their love lives as a Masculine Shield, and their need to perform in order to feel worthy of getting a mans’ love. This Shield is a layer of protection that unfortunately keeps men from getting too close to women’s hearts. But this Shield pushes men away and keeps women from having that passionate romantic love that sets their soul on fire.
